FACULTY
OF LIFE SCIENCES
Science is nothing if it is not for life on this universe. Life
Sciences is the study of total microbes, fauna and flora present in
our planet. Biotechnology, Microbiology and Biochemistry are the
advanced branches of life sciences which are growing very rapidly.
These branches are looking very essential for sustaining the human,
animals and plants lives in a better way.
In view of above, in year 2003 the faculty of life sciences has been
established at Modern Institute of Technology (Rishikesh), to
provide quality professionals in the field of Biotechnology,
Microbiology and Biochemistry to serve the nation.
The faculty of Life Sciences at MIT includes following departments.
1. Department of Biotechnology
2. Department of Microbiology
3. Department of Biochemistry
MIT, Rishikesh is a part of UGC affiliated to H.N.B. Garhwal
University, Srinagar (Garhwal). Biotechnology courses are running in
UG and PG level while Microbiology and Biochemistry is only PG level
at present. All PG courses (Biotechnologies, Microbiology and
Biochemistry) are of two year (four semesters) full time courses,
while B.Sc. (CBZ with Biotechnology) is three years (Six Semester)
course.
The Institute has all the laboratories required for above said
courses. The main laboratories are:
1 Biotechnology Laboratory
2 Microbiology Laboratory
3 Biochemistry Laboratory
4 Sophisticated Instrument Laboratory
5 Aseptic culture Laboratory
6 Common computer Laboratory
7 Pharmacology Laboratory
The Laboratories are will quipped with all the advanced,
sophisticated instruments like PCR, UV Spectrophotometer, Deep
freezer, Centrifuge machine, Leminar airflow, Autoclave etc.
Besides teaching the faculty of life sciences is also dedicated to
research/dissertation work. Few students have already completed
their dissertation in different aspects (like Bap & DBT
biodegradation, antimicrobial activities of plants etc.). Recently,
Biotechnology department received first prize in research paper
presentation in a National Seminar held at I.I.T. Roorkee. Several
more abstract have also appeared in national and International
seminar, so far. Two bacterial strains has been registered
internationally in the name of MIT Rishikesh. More recently,
Uttarakhand Council of Science & Technology (U-COST, a part of
DST, New Delhi) has approved One research project under the
supervision of Dr.(Mrs.) K. Dangwal, in which bio-degradation of BaP
will be studied.
